Le Journal des Entreprises chooses Melody,
multi-channel CMS, for more efficiency

Case Study

Multi-channel publishing is at the heart of the challenges facing the press in digital transformation. The evolution of the Journal des Entreprises is, in this respect, very interesting to observe! At first, its choice was for a web CMS with the certainty of being able to produce the printed newspaper as well... 3 years later, Melody comes back through the front door thanks to its multi-channel CMS quality.

Le Journal des Entreprises moves from a web CMS to a multi-channel CMS

In 2017, Le Journal des Entreprises launched a first call for tenders. Led by an external consultant, the latter did not select Melody and preferred a web CMS. At the time, this choice was based on one argument: it would be easier to interface a web solution offering structured content to produce the monthly paper editions.

In 2020, the group reissued its call for tenders. Even if the solution in place allows the production of the website, the realization of the paper editions remains a real financial drain. Melody therefore easily returned to the race and proposed the same approach as in 2017. This time, no more doubts, the group understands better the stakes of the automatic realization of the paper editions and retains our solution!

The challenge: our multi-channel CMS must manage all the specificities of the pages

The internal context is tense and the teams are wary of the technology that has already disappointed them once. In this situation, it is essential not to question the"web first" organization of the editorial offices and to connect, with the same flexibility, the production of the monthly paper editions.

The automation of the preparation of pages is an important issue: we must ensure that the graphic charter is well modeled, including in the adjustments. The "copy/paste" that made the teams suffer so much must disappear.

The management of the editions is also a crucial point that the first tool did not manage to satisfy: a set of pages common to all the editions, the national news, the whole completed by local pages which differ from one edition to another...

Solution: Melody designed for dual-media journalists

Natively, Melody was designed to meet the needs of the Journal des entreprises editorial staff. The platform, quickly connected to the website, allows journalists to easily feed the existing web CMS through a single application.

Managing a multi-channel version of any content will definitely kill "copy and paste". Any article published on the web can be transformed, with a click, into a copy - version - compatible with prints. You just have to calibrate this version according to the destination format. This operation is often described as fun by users, as it is assisted and automated.

Melody also manages pages imposition complex, editions with common pages and specific pages. All you have to do is set up your publication models; everything else is automatic! Each month, the pages imposition of the paper editions are visible and accessible in real time to follow their progress. This is how the collaborative framework of the system is expressed.

Result: Melody's simplicity reassures teams

Unlike many CMS on the market, Melody is not limited to producing web formats. It is a CMS that allows the production of web content, but not only! Web publishing can come first, before the content is re-exploited on paper. This ability to switch between different channels is our strength.

On such a project, our agility, as well as our deep knowledge of the business, also enabled us to reassure teams that were often wary. A challenge met, because our tool is reliable, stable and easy to access. Not to mention the human qualities and attentiveness of our project manager, a real force for change.

  • Production with Melody began in January 2021. By March, all 14 monthly editions could be produced with our system.

  • All the training and assistance phases were carried out remotely: this is a definite endorsement of the simplicity and the acclaimed ergonomics of our solution!

  • The editorial staff has regained confidence in the tools and is now won over by the collaborative aspect and agility of Melody.
